Llanerch Y Llyn is privately owned woodland with an emphasis on commercial production but with areas of high amenity value. During the storm in March 2018, named by the media as the ‘Beast from the East’, the woodland suffered extensive windblow across the easterly edge. The site is windblown trees are predominantly uprooted, with very few snapped stems, maintaining the commercial income from sawlogs despite the slightly higher working costs. Following completion of another job some 10 miles away we swiftly moved to this site to recover the timber before it begins to devalue. The estimated 3000 tonnes of timber should be dispatched to the mills by early June and although the storm damage is very unwelcome the woodland owner has the benefit of a significant rise in timber prices in the first half of 2018.
