Llanerch Y Llyn is privately owned woodland with an emphasis on commercial production but with areas of high amenity value.
During the storms in March 2018, named by the media as the ‘Beast from the East’, the woodland suffered extensive windblow across the easterly edge. The windblown trees were predominantly uprooted, with very few snapped stems, and so retained their commercial value as sawlogs, despite the slightly higher working costs.
Following completion of another job some 10 miles away we swiftly moved to this site to recover the timber before it began to de-value. The estimated 3000 tonnes of timber was rapidly dispatched to the mills and although the storm damage is very unwelcome the woodland owner benefited from the significantly higher in timber prices experienced in the first half of 2018.
